Slovenia will enchant, invigorate and surprise you!
A small country which boasts outstanding natural beauty. From the majestic Julian Alp mountains through to the crystal clear Soca & Sava rivers and from the Adriatic Sea to the vivid green Forrests & national parks; this pristine country will surely enchant you. For nature lovers of all ages this magical country has so much to offer. In this blog we will guide you through some of our favourite places.
- LAKE BLED – Of course we must start with the most famous natural spot of beauty in Slovenia: ‘Lake Bled’. You may well have seen photos of Lake Bled on magazines and Insta posts and never realised exactly where it was. The Lake is iconic for having a small island in the middle with a pretty church on the top; and in the back drop on the cliffs edge is Bled castle. Whether you visit in summer or winter this location will undoubtedly captivate you. In summer it’s possible to swim in the Lake, hire SUP boards or take the wooden pletna boats over to the island. If you are lucky you may get to witness a wedding. It is custom for the Groom to carry the pride up the 99 stone steps to the church
- LAKE BOHINJ – Often over shadowed by its more famous neighbour, ‘Lake Bohinj’ is less known but is equally impressive and in fact has even more to offer for nature enthusiasts. If you are looking to do a family activity holiday in Slovenia then Lake Bohinj is ideal. As well as offering swimming, SUP and canoeing opportunities there are also some lovely bike trails around the Lake. There are also some wonderful hikes in this area; as well as climbing and canyoning activities near by.
- LJUBLANA – Ljubljana is Slovenias capital city. It is extremely pretty connected by cobbled streets intersecting the Ljubljanica river. In the centre of the city sitting high above the old town is Ljubljana castle; which is walkable from the centre. In fact everywhere is walkable in Ljubljana.Voted GREEN capital of Europe – Ljubljana epitomises the Slovene mind set for healthy & green living. The old town is full pedestrianised so ideal for exploring on foot or bike. It offers an abundance of cafes and restaurants and during summer the city is alive with the hub hub of al fresco dining, street performers and cultural events. The opera air cinema at the castle is magical and the world street food festivals every Friday through the summer months is sublime. Ljubljana is also small and safe so acts as an excellent base for families doing an adventure holiday in Slovenia. For couples it offers a wonderful romantic vibe and for groups of friends or team building away trips it offers the perfect balance of nightlife with healthy active day times!
- SOCA VALLEY – For adrenaline enthusiasts then head to the Soca valley. Here you will encounter white waters, vivid green forests, waterfalls and lots and lots of fun times. The Soca river is one of the cleanest in the world and ideal for white water rafting, kayaking and even hydro speeding! It is great spot for activity and nature lovers. Its also a popular base for groups of friends and well set up for team building experiences. From problem solving challenges, crazy Olympic Games, through to gorge walks and ‘trust tests’ there is so much to experience. Companies and teams who have done our team building active holidays in Slovenia have all benefitted and bonded as a consequence. Its a place that ensures you escape the 9-5; you get to breathe and disconnect and leave with some lasting memories!
- KRAVEC – Slovenia is also a fabulous winter sports destination. It boasts over 10 ski resorts which are particularly well set up for family ski holidays. Our favourite is Krvavecski resort because it is located only a short drive from Ljubljana. It makes it particularly suitable for a short ski break. You can stay on the mountain and enjoy a ski in ski out environment or alternatively you can combine it with a city break and stay in Ljubljana. Slovenia is extremely laid and flexible and we can tailor-make most active holiday requirements. In summer Krvavec turns into an adventure park offering downhill mountain biking, high-rope parks, archery, mountain go-karts and of course epic views of the Ljubljana valley.
- POSTOJNA – The Postojna caves are really quite something. An enormous caverns labyrinth of staligtities and staligmites which will amaze even the most guarded teenager. Its definitely a popular one for families enjoying an adventure holiday in Slovenia. Its also popular for companies looking to do an incentive trip or team building experience. Its possible to arrange dinner in the central cave network and the first 5km of tunnels you are taken through on an electric train. If you are visiting Slovenia it has to be done.
- PIRAN – Slovenia is best known for its lakes & mountains; however Slovenia also has a small coastline along the gorgeous Adriatic Sea. The most pretty spot is the venietian town of Piran. Its a beautiful place with a lovely laid back vibe. Here you can sun worship or if you are more actively minded there are a whole host of water sports to enjoy. From SUP boarding to Seakyaking its all possible!
- JASNA – Jasna is another stunning lake in Slovenia. It’s ideal if you are looking to get off the beaten track and away from things. Here we arrange team building experiences as we as adventure holidays for families with teenagers. It has a Huckleberry Finn charm that immediately puts you at ease and in the mood for fun & games. From canoeing, climbing and rafting through to canyoning, cycling and hiking it really does have a huge amount of natural resources available to its visitors.
- KRANJSKA GORA – Kranjska Gora is another Slovenia gem; offering a picture perfect setting. In summer Kranjska Gora plays hosts to nature lovers and activity enthusiasts. It boats some superb down hill biking trails; which are colour coded to show their difficulty rating. There are also some wonderful cycle and hiking opportunities in this area as well as easy access to water sports. We recommend Kranjska for family activity holidays in Slovenia and also for company team building events and experiences. There is a nice range of accommodation options too from cosy alpine chalets to modern spa hotels. In winter Kranjska Gora turns into a pretty ski town and resort; ideal for a family ski holiday or a shirt ski break. As part of our Slovenia ski safari program we always visit Kranjska Gora ski resort.
- MARIBOR – Maribor is often over looked but is another Slovene highlight and definitely makes our top 10 places in Slovenia to visit. Located in the east of the country Maribor is a great base to explore this beautiful green countryside. Famed for its vineyards its a stunningly clean & natural environment to explore. We recommend riding the international Drava Cycling Route which takes you through the magical lands between Maribor and Pohorje. Stopping for some wine tasting along the way is a must of course. In winter Maribor offers excellent skiing facilities and is again ideal for a Slovenia family ski holiday or a short ski break. Maribor is also well set up for organising creative and exciting events for team away days or incentive holidays.
